#danceless camp 2025: Teaching Artists Dojo

#danceless camp is one of Unlock Dancing Plaza’s significant outreach initiatives specifically designed to connect and nurture teaching artists through intensive trainings.

Last year's #danceless camp theme “Teaching Artists in Community” gathered local artists together to explore examples of communication within various communities, allowing the seeds of bodily imagination to sprout. This year, the theme will focus on artistic practice and pedagogy with a particular emphasis on feedback and evaluation of community arts experiences. Participants will study art education in its different stages, from experience to creation to practice.

#danceless camp 2025 will be led by three artistic groups: Casson & Friends from the United Kingdom, Comuna de Pedra from Macau, and Unlock Dancing Plaza from Hong Kong. Each group will share their experiences in teaching as an artistic practice through various community arts development cases and explore the emergence and interpretation of bodily knowledge and artistic experience. Additionally, participants will collaboratively develop workshops that engage with the community, guided by the instructors from each group. The goal is a more refined design and expression of the relationship between teaching methods and artistic creation practices.

During the four days of camp, participants will engage in workshops, case study discussions, creative activities and mentorship to facilitate a deeper understanding of artistic concepts and practical methods, to foster discussion and exchange around community arts and education.
